More restaurants for Chinook Centre in Calgary
CALGARY—A third Flatiron Restaurant and Bar is slated to open in Calgary’s Chinook Centre late this year.
The restaurant, owned by the real estate developers Lucid Group, is described as a player in the premium-casual market.
Flatiron will move into a two-storey space in the mall to create the restaurant’s flagship location. Other restaurants are found in the Eau Claire district of Calgary and the inaugural location on Barlow Trail just north of 16 Avenue NE.
“Chinook Centre is an important location for us. High traffic, high visibility and customer access from both the street and mall levels make it a desirable location for showcasing our premium casual restaurant concept,” said company president Adam Drybrough.
Flatrion’s second restaurant is expected to open this spring in a 7,400 square foot space in the Centennial Place development.
Its Chinook Centre location is even larger at 9,500 square feet, with seating for 250, both inside and outside on a rooftop-dining patio overlooking MacLeod Trail.
The menu is the creation of Flatiron executive chef Michelle Blanchett.
Flatiron is not the only new eatery setting up shop at the expanded Chinook Centre in 2010. Also moving in are Spring Roll Noodle House, Phil and Sebastian Coffee Roasters, the second Alberta Chop location and Chacci’s Sandwich Bar.
The same company that operates Moxie’s Classic Grill owns Chop, with locations in Edmonton, Winnipeg and suburban Vancouver. The 219-seat steakhouse and seafood restaurant is expected to open this spring.
The 64-seat Spring Roll Noodle House serves contemporary Asian cuisine and a variety of noodle soups and is expected to open its doors early fall.
Owned by Sebastian Sztabzyb & Phil Robertson, Phil and Sebastian Coffee Roasters will open its first mall location, following successful operations in Marda Loop and the Calgary Farmers’ Market.
Chacci’s Sandwich Bar serves fresh, made to order sandwiches using quality cheese, meat and bread sourced from local suppliers. The Chinook Centre outlet will be Chacci’s sixth in Calgary.
“Chinook has really evolved as an entertainment destination and dining has become a huge part of our guest experience,” said Terry Napper, general manager of the Chinook Centre.
“Last year our restaurant and food court clients served over 4.5 million customers and generated over $40 million in sales so we anticipate the new eateries to do extremely well.”

The Chinook Centre is expanding by an additional 180,000 square feet, making room for 80 new stores and restaurants at a cost of $280 million.
