CRFA scraps Alberta Foodservice Show
CALGARY—The Alberta Foodservice Show planned for September is a no go for 2009.
Event organizers the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association pulled the plug on the show in a late June announcement.
A letter from the CRFA’s vice-president of exhibitions Steve Barber said the show was cancelled “due to deteriorating economic conditions and the host of challenges facing foodservice operators in the current climate.”
Barber said the show would return in September 2010.
“The market uncertainty has forced a thorough evaluation of the show and the association has concluded that deferring it until 2010 would be in the best interest of our exhibitors, CRFA members and show visitors,” Barber writes.
He said the organization plans to start “a needs analysis” of the hospitality industry in Alberta, as well as researching the needs of restaurant owners and operators in the province.
“The results from these studies will form the basis for a revitalized event,” Barber said.
Companies with booth space booked at the show will receive full refunds from the CRFA.
