Sysco to open Woodstock facility

WOODSTOCK, ON—Sysco Canada has big plans for a 57-acre lot of vacant industrial land in Woodstock’s Commerce Way Park.

Construction will start this fall on a 400,000-square-foot distribution facility, which will have 89,000 square feet of freezer space, 49,000 square feet of cooler space, 41,000 square feet of cold dock space, a 101,000-square-foot dry warehouse, a 31,000-square-foot dry dock and 17,000 square feet for material handling and equipment storage.  There will also be 67,000 square feet of office space. The land will be sold for approximately $2.7 million Canadian.

“We are excited about the location, the surface-roads infrastructure, and the ability to serve our current customers and grow our business from a state-of-the-art distribution center,” said Rodney Stroud, market president of Sysco Canada-East and president of Sysco Central Ontario.

The new distribution centre is expected to generate over 350 jobs.

Houston-based Sysco Corporation operates 177 distribution facilities serving approximately 400,000 customers in North America.

According to the company, it posted sales of more than $39 billion in the fiscal year 2011 that ended July 2, 2011.

Woodstock beat out London, ON for the facility. According to the London Free Press, there was an offer on the table last year to buy 26 hectares of industrial land in Innovation Park, a deal worth $3.47 million and with the potential to create 150 jobs in London.
