OAKVILLE, ON—Wendy’s put poutine on its menu this week and has started a movement to have it named Canada’s national dish.
The Canadian arm of the U.S.-based quick-service chain has launched an online “poutition” in an effort to persuade Canada’s lawmakers to recognize this Quebec-born dish of French fries with cheese curds and gravy as the culinary item that represents Canada.
Wendy’s is urging Canadians to go to poutition.ca or to Wendy’s Canada Facebook page (www.facebook.com/WendysCanada) to put their virtual signatures on the

The promotion includes branded merchandise available for purchase at CafePress.ca, items such as buttons, bumper stickers, mugs, yard signs and t-shirts.
