Wendy's gets behind poutine

OAKVILLE, ON—Wendy’s put poutine on its menu  this week and has started a movement to have it named Canada’s national dish.

The Canadian arm of the U.S.-based quick-service chain has launched an online “poutition” in an effort to persuade Canada’s lawmakers to recognize this Quebec-born dish of French fries with cheese curds and gravy as the culinary item that represents Canada.

Wendy’s is urging Canadians to go to poutition.ca or to Wendy’s Canada Facebook page (www.facebook.com/WendysCanada)  to put their virtual signatures on the

petition. If they do this, they will receive an upgrade coupon that can be redeemed with the purchase of a combo.

The restaurant chain  will submit the petition to Parliament just before Canada  Day, after1000,000 signatures are received.

The promotion includes branded merchandise available for purchase at  CafePress.ca, items such as buttons, bumper stickers, mugs, yard signs and t-shirts.

Poutine is selling across Canada at Wendy’s for $3.99 or for $2.20 as a side upgrade in a combo.
