Murphy Group new owner of Merchantman Pub
CHARLOTTETOWN–After 16 years of ownership, Peter Hyndman has sold the Merchantman Pub to the Murphy Group of Restaurants.
“In the past 16 years, there hasn’t been a day that I didn’t look forward to coming to work—to the Pub,” Hyndman wrote in his last restaurant newsletter.
“This restaurant, and the people in it, have made my 16 years the happiest they could have possibly been. To all the people who have been here, throughout the years, to have fun, hang out and share some advice, thank you.”
Taking over operations of The Merchantman is Kevin Murphy, owner of the Murphy Group of Restaurants, which runs a number of restaurants in the PEI capital.
“Peter Hyndman is a successful businessman. He has grown the Merchantman Pub into one of the best restaurants/pubs in Atlantic Canada,” Murphy said.
“His hard work has paid off and we wish to build upon them in the future. We want to make the patrons continue to feel welcome (and) we can’t wait to meet everyone, get to know our guests and have some fun at the Pub.”
Murphy said neither the food, staff nor décor would change. Chef Shirleen Peardon uses local meat, fish, produce and vegetable whenever possible to create meals from scratch.
Sandwiches made to order, homemade soup, salad and baked goods are also on the menu.
