Greening up APEX in 2010
HALIFAX—The Green Zone is a new addition to the 2010 APEX Show, taking place at Exhibition Park from April 18-19.
Showcasing companies with environmentally friendly products, the Green Zone includes foodservice equipment that meets ‘green’ criteria, ideas for efficient water use solutions, biodegradable and compostable products, environmentally sensitive cleaning products and sustainable food.
“We have an advisory committee and one of the exhibitors brought it up at the last year’s show meeting. The vast majority thought it was something we should be looking at,” said APEX show organizer Ellen Scanlan.
Patrick Watt, owner of A Day in Life Foodservice Development in New Brunswick, will be in the Green Zone to answer questions green principles and products.
As of mid-January, 10 companies had been accepted to display their products or services in Green Zone.
Returning in 2010 is Chef Wars, a head to head team competition with some the best Atlantic Canadian chefs competing for the title. In 2009, Bee Choo Char with Gio in Halifax was the winner.
Luis Clavel, executive chef at the Holiday Inn Harbourview in Dartmouth, is the organizer of Chef Wars.
David Swanston and Ron Yudd are the show’s two guest speakers in 2010.
Swanston will present two sessions, Marketing to Win and Impact Menus, while Yudd will speak on the topics Points of Profit and No One Escapes Customer Service.
The first Golden Junior Competition is also scheduled for APEX on April 18. College chefs from across the province will compete in a cold salon contest. CCFCC members will judge the student’s creations.
Nova Scotia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Select
Nova Scotia have once again partnered on the Source Local Marketplace, which features small regional producers. King’s Processing, VanDyk’s, Randsand, Armstrong and Sainte Famille Winery are among the companies taking part.
