Bar owner faces two disciplinary hearings

HALIFAX—Mike Smith, one of the owners of the Toothy Moose, and best known for his role as one of the Trailer Park Boys, faces a March 12 hearing at the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.

The Argyle Street bar has been called to an emergency disciplinary hearing to answer to a number of possible infractions, according to the Alcohol and Gaming Division.

License holder Newco Holdings Limited, of which Smith is president, is alleged to have sold alcohol to someone under the influence of liquor or to someone who will become drunk if they consume more alcohol, allowing someone who is drunk in the bar, permitting activity in the bar that is detrimental to the control and operation of the bar and exceeding safe and allowable occupancy levels.

Another one of Smith’s businesses, Bubbles Mansion on Prince Street in Halifax, named for his Trailer Park Boys character, has been called to a disciplinary hearing on March 25.

It’s alleged that the license holders served alcohol to minors and allowed a minor to drink in the bar.
