Nova Scotia Community College chef instructor Peter Dewar can now add national champion to his list of culinary accomplishments. Dewar, along with sous chef Megan Thompson, beat out three other teams to win the recent National Chefs Challenge put on by the Canadian Culinary Federation in Montreal.

Jun 16, 2008 - PEI proposes ban on designated smoking rooms

Changes to Prince Edward Island's smoke-free legislation would ban smoking rooms in the province. The minister also wants a limit on outdoor smoking on the decks and patios of licensed restaurants and bars, areas where patrons can now legally light up.

Coffee Vision Inc. (CVI), and its subsidiary, Coffee Vision Atlantic Inc. (CVAI), headed up by Michael Aronovici, has sold its 40 Starbucks stores in Quebec and Atlantic Canada to Starbucks Coffee Canada.

Jason Rosso, executive chef at Toronto's Boiler House and Pure Spirits, fell to "local boy" Luis Clavel, executive chef at Salty's, McKelvie's and Quincy's in Halifax during an Iron Chef Accelerated competition at April's ApEx show in Moncton.

May 26, 2008 - East coast chefs cooking their way to New York City

Ten Atlantic Canada chefs are cooking at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City this summer. Sean Doucet, Stefan Mueller, Kevin Boyce, Roary MacPherson, Luis Clavel, Michael Howell, Craig Flinn, Martin Ruiz Salvador, Dennis Johnson and Ray Bear are raising funds to pay their way.
